Anambra State Command’s Police Officers have successfully dismantled a notorious kidnap gang operating in the Anam area of Anambra West Local Government Area.
On July 18, 2023, police detectives received a tip-off regarding Chukwuebuka Esulo, a resident of Ebonyi State, who was attempting to sell a black Mercedes Benz GLK SUV with the registration number BLF 746 EA in Agulu, Anaocha LGA.
The vehicle’s owner had been reported kidnapped in Aguleri on June 26, 2023, and the kidnappers had extorted N4.5 million as ransom from the victim’s family before releasing him.
Swiftly acting on the information, the detectives apprehended Chukwuebuka Esulo for questioning. During the interrogation, he admitted to being a member of the kidnap gang and revealed that he was tasked with selling the car they had stolen.
Under the orders of the Commissioner of Police, the case was transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Awkuzu, which then launched an operation to apprehend other members of the gang.
This led to the arrest of another gang member named Ejeka Ufuo, a 23-year-old individual who believed that the vehicle had already been sold. He had come forward to collect his share of the proceeds from the sale.
The authorities are continuing their efforts to apprehend the remaining members of the gang and recover any illegal weapons they may possess.
Commending all personnel involved in this significant breakthrough, Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, urged them to intensify their efforts until the menace of kidnapping is completely eradicated from Anambra State.
