A joint security team comprising the Police, Military, Civil Defence, and local vigilante groups successfully secured the release of Reverend Father Stephen Echezona, who was abducted at a fuel station in Ichida. The priest was freed unharmed in Ihiala following a coordinated security operation.
The abduction took place when armed criminals, operating in a white Lexus SUV without a plate number, engaged security operatives in a gun duel at the scene. Overpowered by the superior firepower of the joint security team, the assailants abandoned the vehicle and fled with the priest as a hostage.
A coordinated pursuit was launched, with security checkpoints and operatives across the state placed on high alert. This pressure forced the criminals to abandon their captive in Ihiala and escape into a nearby bush.
Security forces have taken control of the area in Ihiala to track down the suspects and recover the priest’s Toyota Highlander, which remains missing. Investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
