In a daring operation, the Anambra State Police Command has successfully rescued four men who were abducted by a notorious kidnapping gang on Friday, March 8th, 2024. The police, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, intercepted the kidnappers along Amagu Awgbu Road in Orumba North Local Government Area as they attempted to flee the state.
The encounter between law enforcement and the kidnappers saw the gang engaging in a fierce shootout with the patrol team. Despite the gang’s attempt to resist, they were overpowered by the superior firepower of the police and vigilante members. Two of the three vehicles used by the gang were immobilized during the operation.
Although some members of the gang managed to escape, both in a vehicle and on foot, the police were able to recover significant evidence, including a Pump Action Gun and two SUVs – a 2017 Toyota Highlander with registration number Abuja GWA 141 KZ, and a Mercedes Benz GLK 350 4Matic with registration number Anambra AGU 242 NQ. It was discovered that the number plates on the Mercedes Benz SUV were falsely issued to a Toyota Sienna Spacewagon vehicle.
Fortunately, all four abducted victims were rescued unharmed from the clutches of the kidnappers. Preliminary investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding their abduction.
Commending the successful rescue operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, lauded the effective collaboration between the police and vigilante groups across the state. He reiterated the commitment of the police force to prioritize the safety and protection of the citizens, vowing to work tirelessly with all stakeholders to eradicate criminal threats in the state.
The Commissioner has instructed that the case be transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Awkuzu for further investigation. He has tasked the unit with utilizing their expertise to track down the escaped gang members and ensure they face justice.
