Operatives from the Abagana Division of the Anambra State Police Command have rescued an elderly woman who was being subjected to cruel treatment by another woman in Umudunu village, Abagana.
The incident gained widespread attention after a video clip of the incident went viral.
The perpetrator, identified as Ukamaka Udeugbo, a 50-year-old woman, was later revealed to be the victim’s biological daughter.
In the video, the suspect can be seen repeatedly beating the naked elderly woman and drenching her with buckets of water while she lay on the floor.
Following the rescue, the suspect was promptly apprehended and is currently in custody, awaiting prosecution.
To ensure a thorough investigation and protect the public interest, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has instructed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The Commissioner has also authorized the aged woman to be placed under the care of the Commissioner for Women Affairs, ensuring she receives adequate support from the State Government.
Once the investigation is concluded, the suspect will be arraigned in court to face the appropriate legal charges.
