The Anambra State Police Command has responded to a viral video making rounds on social media, in which a man, reportedly on a hospital bed, accused the Police, Nigeria Customs Service, and prominent individuals in the state of obstructing justice.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command described the video as an attempt to tarnish the image of the Police and drag respected figures, including Prince Arthur Eze of Ukpo and the traditional ruler of Ukwulu, into a matter under investigation.

“The Command views the clip as a smear campaign targeted at individuals and institutions who have built credible reputations over the years,” the statement read. “We shall invoke relevant sections of cybercrime laws to address this act.”

The Command noted that while it would not engage in a media back-and-forth with the individual in question, it was compelled to set the record straight. According to the Police, they responded promptly to the reported incident, arrested the suspects, recovered arms, and averted a possible escalation of violence.

Contrary to the allegations of undue influence, the Command emphasized that its actions were guided by standard inter-agency protocols. It clarified that the suspects were handed over to the Nigeria Customs Service for internal disciplinary measures, in line with procedures involving personnel from sister security agencies.

“This is routine and does not negate the Police’s commitment to pursuing justice. The Command assures the public that justice will be served in due course,” Ikenga stated.

The Command also raised concerns about the individual’s attempt to incite public sentiment against law enforcement and respected members of the society. It stressed the importance of responsible social media use and cautioned against the dangers of misinformation.

“We urge the public, especially Ndi Anambra, to remain vigilant and not be swayed by attempts to discredit the Police or other security agencies,” the statement concluded.

The Command reiterated its dedication to justice, transparency, and public safety, while also warning that those who propagate falsehoods online will face the full weight of the law.
