Anambra Police, Ministry of Tourism Partner With Bar Owners To Boost Security on Club Road, Tourist Sites

The Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, has initiated a strategic engagement with the Anambra State Restaurant and Bar Owners Association to enhance security measures across major entertainment hubs and tourist attractions in the state.

The meeting, held on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the Police Command Headquarters in Awka, was convened by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD. It focused on ensuring the safety of businesses, workers, and patrons, with particular attention on Club Road in Awka—a popular nightlife district—and other tourist locations across Anambra.

Speaking during the engagement, CP Orutugu revealed that intelligence reports had indicated that some bars and lounges were being exploited as meeting points by criminal elements. He called for increased cooperation between business owners and security agencies, urging proprietors to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities. The Commissioner assured attendees of intensified police patrols and surveillance operations aimed at preventing crime and swiftly tackling emerging threats.

Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon Don Onyeji, commended the police initiative, emphasizing the ministry’s readiness to support the effort. He highlighted Anambra’s rich cultural and natural heritage, citing attractions like Agulu Lake, Ogbunike Cave, and the Igbo Ukwu Museum as vital assets that require improved security to thrive.

The Restaurant and Bar Owners Association welcomed the partnership and expressed commitment to implementing the directives issued during the meeting.

Also present at the session were the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Ibrahim Ezekiel; Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Intelligence Department, ACP Tochukwu Umeh; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security (Anti-Cultism), Hon Kingsley Ezika; and senior members of the association.

The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its dedication to deepening collaboration with stakeholders to ensure lasting peace, security, and business-friendly environments across the state.
