Anambra Police Launches Operation “Udo Ga Chi” To Curb Kidnapping, Violent Crimes

In a bold and proactive move to combat the rising threat of kidnapping and violent crimes, the Anambra State Police Command has officially launched Operation Udo Ga Chi – Zero Kidnapping and Other Violent Crimes in the State. The initiative was unveiled during a security briefing held at the Amawbia Flyover in Awka on Monday, April 14.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, FWC, MINPS, PhD, emphasized that the new operation is a strategic and intelligence-driven response aimed at safeguarding lives and property, especially during the Easter season and beyond.

“The purpose of this press briefing is to inform Ndi Anambra and all residents of the state that we have launched this operation to decisively address serious crimes like armed robbery and kidnapping,” Orutugu said. “This effort reassures our people that Anambra remains a safe and welcoming place to return to, especially during this festive period.”

The Commissioner highlighted that the operation is a joint security taskforce involving the Nigerian Army (302 Artillery Regiment), Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Vigilante, and the general public.

“This is a shared responsibility. The glory for safety and peace in the state cannot be taken by one agency alone. The real heroes are also the citizens who choose to support security efforts by sharing actionable intelligence,” CP Orutugu added.

Under the framework of Operation Udo Ga Chi, divisional police officers and other security formations have been directed to conduct massive raids on identified criminal flashpoints and hotspots across their respective jurisdictions. These operations are intended to disrupt criminal networks and restore public confidence in the state’s security apparatus.

The initiative features joint security patrols, stop-and-search operations, and deployment of Armoured Personnel Carriers to strategic locations across the state. A dedicated Joint Security Information Room has also been established to facilitate timely reporting of suspicious activities.

Residents are encouraged to contact the following emergency numbers:
– **Police** – 07039194332
– **NDLEA** – 09136832679
– **NSCDC** – 08066769442
– **FRSC** – 122
– **Anambra State Vigilantes** – 511 or 122

CP Orutugu expressed gratitude to the Anambra State Government and public-spirited individuals for supporting the police with the repair and provision of operational vehicles and equipment.

He assured citizens that security personnel have been fully briefed to remain civil in their interactions with the public while remaining alert to any threats.

“Together, we can make Anambra State a safer and livable homeland for everyone. Happy Easter in advance, and may God bless us all,” the Commissioner concluded.
