The Anambra State Police Command has initiated a thorough investigation into the murder of Bar. Peter Awah, Secretary of the Okija Development Union, who was killed last night at Eke Umudioka, Okija.
The tragic incident occurred on May 19, 2024, at around 11:00 pm. Preliminary reports indicate that Awah was ambushed by assailants on motorbikes as he was about to alight from his vehicle. The attackers shot him at close range, leading to his immediate death. Eyewitnesses have provided crucial information that is assisting the police in their investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, the Nigerian Bar Association, the people of Okija, and the entire state. He has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Homicide section of the Criminal Investigation Department in Awka to ensure a comprehensive probe into the incident.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Command, confirmed these developments in a statement released from Awka.
