The police in Neni, a town in the Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, successfully intercepted an armed robbery gang that had forcibly taken a tricycle from its owner in Agu-Awka on the night of July 15, 2023 (Saturday).
Acting on information received from the police in Awka, who had reported that the gang was fleeing towards Anaocha LGA, the local police and vigilante teams collaborated and set up an ambush to apprehend the criminals.
The operation was successful, resulting in the arrest of the three-man gang.
The police recovered a Beretta pistol, a locally-made Chief Revolver pistol, twelve live rounds of ammunition, and one expended round. Additionally, the stolen tricycle was also retrieved.
The suspects in custody are Ebuka Madu, a 22-year-old male from Umunze, Chinedu Godwin, a 23-year-old male from Enugu State, and Udegbunam Chikezie, an 18-year-old male from Neni.
Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, assures the public and the people of Anambra that the trust placed in the police force for maintaining law and order and seeking justice will be valued and not taken for granted.
He has given instructions for a thorough investigation to be conducted, after which the suspects will be arraigned in court.
