Police operatives in Anambra State have foiled a kidnap attempt in Neni, Anaocha Local Government Area, rescuing three victims and recovering one of the victim’s vehicles.
The incident occurred on Friday, May 3, 2025, at about 8:45 p.m. when officers from the Neni Divisional Headquarters responded swiftly to a distress call at Okacha Junction, Neni. Among the rescued victims were a husband and wife, as well as another individual whose Black Lexus 350 SUV, with registration number ABJ 557 LD, was forcefully taken by the fleeing suspects.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the prompt police intervention at the scene prevented what could have been a successful abduction. One of the victims’ vehicles was recovered during the operation.
In pursuit of the fleeing criminals, a Joint Security Force—comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilantes—has been deployed to intensify the manhunt and ensure the recovery of the snatched Lexus SUV.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the swift response of the operatives and called on residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities in the state.
“This operation reflects our resolve to rid Anambra of criminal elements. We urge the public to continue cooperating with security agencies in providing timely and credible information,” CP Orutugu stated.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
