The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the successful rescue and safe return of a kidnap victim abducted late Tuesday night, April 22, at Umuege Village, Amawbia, near Awka.

The operation, which falls under the Command’s anti-kidnapping campaign tagged “Operation Udo Ga Chi – Zero Kidnapping”, was carried out by operatives attached to the Central Police Station, Awka. The Police swung into action immediately after receiving a distress call around 10:45 p.m. regarding the abduction.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, officers gave the abductors a hot chase and strategically deployed across critical points, which forced the fleeing criminals—who were operating in an unmarked Toyota Sienna vehicle—to abandon the victim at Umunya, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

“The victim was promptly rescued and has since been debriefed by the authorities to aid further investigations,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident to ensure that the perpetrators are tracked down and brought to justice. He also reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining proactive operations across the state to eradicate kidnapping and other violent crimes.

The Anambra State Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements promptly, assuring that the campaign against crime and insecurity remains relentless.
