In a significant breakthrough, the Anambra State Police Command has dismantled a notorious gun running syndicate operating within the Onitsha region. This accomplishment comes after weeks of diligent surveillance conducted by the Command’s operatives.
The operation resulted in the confiscation of an alarming cache of weaponry, including Twenty-Three Automatic Pump Action Guns and a stash of 625 live cartridges, signaling a major blow to illicit firearms trafficking in the State.
Three individuals suspected of involvement in this illicit trade have been apprehended in Onitsha, marking the beginning of a widened investigation into the network.
Commending the relentless efforts of the operatives, Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, acknowledged the crucial guidance provided throughout the operation by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, affirmed the commitment of the Anambra State Police Command in upholding law and order, underscoring the importance of this successful operation in curbing the proliferation of illegal firearms.
