Anambra Police Commissioner Vows To Combat Crime, Strengthen Security Collaboration

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Livingston Orutugu, has declared his readiness to tackle criminal activities head-on while fostering collaboration with other security agencies to ensure a safer state.

Orutugu made this commitment during an interaction with journalists in Awka on Wednesday, where he emphasized the importance of synergy in addressing security challenges. He revealed that he had already visited key security agencies, including the Commander of the 302 Artillery Regiment (General Support) Onitsha, the Commandants of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), as well as the Rapid Response Squad Formation in Awkuzu.

“The aim is to foster stronger collaboration in tackling security challenges within the state. During my visits, I emphasized the need for seamless coordination, intelligence sharing, and resource integration among security agencies to enhance public safety and sustain ongoing joint operations in critical areas of the state,” he stated.

Orutugu, who is widely known as “The Fear” among his colleagues, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing strategies and partnerships aimed at ensuring peace across Anambra. As the 35th Commissioner of Police in the state, he appealed to residents to provide useful information and cooperate with the police to help curb crime effectively.

Recalling his experience in the Police Mobile Force (PMF), where he successfully led a team during the Ife-Modakeke crisis in Osun State and managed protests without violence, Orutugu assured Anambra residents that he would work diligently to bring crime rates to the barest minimum.

In a strong message to his officers, he warned against extortion and bribery, stating that his administration would not tolerate indiscipline. Instead, he urged police personnel to show greater dedication to their duties and improve their response time to incidents.

Orutugu’s leadership marks a renewed commitment to security in Anambra State, as he takes charge with a clear strategy to strengthen law enforcement and foster public trust.
