The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has engaged stakeholders from Ikenga and Isiokwe villages in a bid to resolve the ongoing boundary dispute that recently led to the killing of one person and destruction of properties.
During a meeting at his office in Awka on March 18, 2025, CP Orutugu emphasized the importance of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in addressing the crisis. He urged both communities to cooperate in identifying those responsible for the violence to ensure justice is served.
The commissioner noted that beyond settling the immediate boundary disagreement, the intervention aims to foster lasting peace between the broader Umueri and Aguleri communities. In response, representatives from both villages agreed to dialogue, review government interventions on the issue, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to achieve a lasting solution.
CP Orutugu extended his condolences to the family of the deceased and directed both communities to set up a committee to visit the bereaved and support those affected by property destruction. He also encouraged them to seek government clarification on boundary adjustments whenever necessary, rather than resorting to conflict.
Dignitaries at the meeting included HRM Igwe Sir Benneth Izuchukwu Emeka (Okebo II of Umueri), HRH Ezeudo Aguleri Dr. Michael Idigo, Anambra East Local Government Chairman Sir Chinweze Ifeanyi, Presidents-General of the two communities, Amb. John Metchie and Mr. Iloakasia Ifeanyi, among other stakeholders.
