Anambra Police Commissioner Orders Detention of Three Officers Over Alleged Corruption

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the detention of three police inspectors following allegations of corruption and misconduct during a routine patrol.

The directive, issued on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, also includes the immediate commencement of internal disciplinary procedures against the officers involved.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the officers were accused of forcibly searching a civilian’s phone and extorting money from the individual during a security patrol.

During an interrogation session, CP Orutugu expressed strong disapproval of the officers’ conduct, describing their actions as a clear violation of police ethics and professional standards.

“The Nigeria Police Force is a disciplined, transparent, responsible, responsive, and accountable institution that does not condone abuse of office, corruption, or any form of unprofessional behavior,” the CP stated.

He further emphasized that such actions undermine the integrity of the Force and erode public trust, which is critical to the successful implementation of policing strategies and community safety efforts.

CP Orutugu reiterated the command’s commitment to upholding the core values of the Nigeria Police Force and assured members of the public that disciplinary measures would be pursued diligently to ensure accountability.
