Anambra Police Commissioner, Governor Soludo Assess Rapid Response Squad Facility In Akwuzu

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on February 22, 2025, led the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, on a facility assessment tour of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) formation in Akwuzu.

The visit aligns with the Command’s commitment to transparency, enhanced security operations, and stronger collaboration with the state government. CP Orutugu briefed Governor Soludo on the Command’s operational preparedness, particularly in its ongoing efforts to re-arrest the fleeing suspects involved in the murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, a serving member of the Anambra State House of Assembly.

As part of ongoing reforms, the Commissioner announced the reorganisation of the RRS unit, including a structured system for interviewing suspects in custody. This initiative aims to ensure accountability, uphold transparency, and reinforce public confidence in police investigations.

The restructuring of the unit is expected to enhance its effectiveness in crime prevention and law enforcement. By adopting a more professional approach to handling suspects, the Command seeks to improve evidence gathering, facilitate successful prosecutions, and strengthen overall security across the state.

Governor Soludo reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring the safety of Anambra residents, while CP Orutugu reiterated his commitment to professional policing, community engagement, and the maintenance of law and order.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the Command remains focused on proactive security measures to safeguard lives and property in the state.
