Anambra Police Command Takes Responsibility For Escaped Murder Suspects, Vows To Re-arrest Them

The Anambra State Police Command has acknowledged operational lapses that led to the escape of two suspects involved in the murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, the lawmaker representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency. In a statement issued on February 27, 2025, the Command assured the public that efforts were underway to recapture the fleeing suspects and bring all those responsible to justice.

The statement, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to transparency and keeping Ndi Anambra informed about security developments in the state.

While taking full responsibility for the security breach, the police assured residents that measures were being put in place to strengthen security across Anambra State.

“The Command hereby reiterates that among other necessary security measures ongoing to improve safety in the state, it shall not rest until the fleeing suspects are re-arrested and all those involved brought to book,” SP Ikenga stated.

The police also cautioned against inflammatory comments that could heighten tensions, urging stakeholders to be measured in their reactions.

“While noting the right of individuals or groups to freedom of speech, the Command urges relevant stakeholders to exercise restraint in their comments and reactions to avoid inciting one another and prevent the escalation of tensions,” the statement read.

Additionally, the Command emphasized the need for an impartial investigation, stressing that ensuring fairness in the process was crucial to upholding justice.

As the search for the escaped suspects continues, the Anambra Police Command has reassured the public of its determination to maintain law and order. Residents are encouraged to provide any useful information that could assist in tracking down the fugitives.

The tragic killing of Hon. Justice Azuka has sparked widespread concern, with calls for swift action to apprehend those responsible. The police have vowed not to relent in their pursuit of justice, promising that all culprits will face the full weight of the law.
