In a robust response to the recent surge in cult-related violence in Awka, the capital city of Anambra State, the local police force has successfully arrested 16 individuals linked to notorious cult groups, with an additional 21 suspects currently declared wanted.

These decisive actions follow a series of intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling the networks responsible for disturbing the six months of peace the city had previously enjoyed. The operations were directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, who expressed his determination to restore order and ensure that those responsible for the recent killings are brought to justice.

CP Adeoye has issued a directive to the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) to intensify efforts to apprehend the remaining cultists who have evaded capture. He emphasized the importance of community vigilance and the role of leaders in speaking out against the menace of cultism.

The arrested suspects are currently being detained as investigations and further operations continue. The Anambra State Police Command, under CP Adeoye’s leadership, remains committed to eradicating cultist activities and restoring lasting peace to the area.

Residents and community leaders are urged to cooperate with the authorities and provide any information that may lead to the arrest of the wanted individuals, as the police vow to pursue all leads to ensure the safety and security of Awka residents.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Command, calls on the public to report any suspicious activities and assures that the identities of those who provide information will be kept confidential.
