The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the violent attack on security personnel that led to the burning of an Army operational vehicle in Enugwu-Agu Village, Oba Ofemili, Awka North Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrests were made by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Awkuzu, following a thorough investigation into the incident which occurred at about 9:45 a.m. on April 13, 2025.
The suspects, identified as Uche Egwu (35) and Jindo Onyeka (32), reportedly confessed to their involvement and provided vital information about other individuals linked to the attack.
The incident involved an unprovoked assault on both Police and Military personnel, as well as community stakeholders, by a group of armed individuals. While the security operatives successfully managed the situation and no lives were lost, the assailants succeeded in setting ablaze a military vehicle.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the professionalism and bravery of the officers in containing the situation. He described the attack as a deliberate act of provocation aimed at testing the resolve of security agencies, and a direct assault on the soul of the nation.
“This is not just an attack on security operatives—it is an assault on the very foundation of law and order. We will not tolerate such acts of violence and sabotage,” Orutugu stated.
He further directed the security team to intensify efforts in tracking down the remaining suspects still at large. He also called for greater community cooperation and vigilance, noting that safeguarding the nation requires the active participation of all citizens.
The Police Command assured the public that justice will be served and reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security across Anambra State.
