The Anambra State Police Command successfully intercepted two armed men and recovered a locally made pistol and a tricycle during an operation in the state capital. The interception occurred on May 19, 2024, at 12:25 pm along Amawbia-Nibo Road.
The suspects, Chigozie Echiebu, 25, from Urum Village, Awka LGA, and Edwine Emmanuel, 25, from Nkerefi Village, Nkanu East, Enugu State, were apprehended by police operatives as part of a newly intensified security initiative led by Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam.
Upon their arrest, the suspects provided the police with valuable information regarding their operations and identified other members of their gang, which is aiding the ongoing investigation.
Commissioner Itam has directed that the investigation be expanded and deepened to ensure all individuals connected to the criminal activities are apprehended and brought to justice. He also mandated that the case be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Command, confirmed the details in a statement issued from Awka. The police are committed to maintaining heightened security measures to ensure the safety of residents.
