Law enforcement authorities in Ozubulu and Umunze towns, Anambra State, have successfully dismantled two extortion syndicates that had been preying on the public through threatening and demanding money under the guise of deadly threats.
In Umunze, Orumba South LGA Headquarters, diligent investigations led to the apprehension of two suspects. The duo had been sending intimidating text messages to a victim, claiming association with ESN (Eastern Security Network), demanding a substantial sum of money under threat of kidnapping and murder of the victim and his daughter. Both suspects have been apprehended and are currently in police custody pending arraignment in court.
Similarly, at the Ozubulu Headquarters of Ekwusigo LGA, police arrested a male suspect who used two different phone lines to issue menacing threats to a businessman. Identifying himself as an ESN Commander, he coerced the victim into paying or facing dire consequences. Through meticulous investigative methods involving technological and human assets, detectives traced and arrested the suspect at his hideout, seizing both phone SIM cards. He is now in police custody awaiting legal proceedings.
