The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old suspect, Muanaenye Chekwube Victor, for allegedly orchestrating the kidnapping of his own friend and collecting a ransom in foreign currency equivalent to five million three hundred thousand naira.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Saturday, June 29, 2025, the arrest was made by operatives attached to the Uli Divisional Headquarters following an ongoing investigation into the case reported on June 26.
Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect, in collaboration with his gang, plotted the kidnapping and successfully collected the ransom before releasing the victim. During interrogation, Victor confessed to luring his unsuspecting friend under the pretense of escorting him to meet another acquaintance. He then feigned his own abduction to deflect suspicion.
The suspect is currently cooperating with the police by providing useful information that is aiding the ongoing efforts to apprehend other members of the gang. The police have assured that Victor will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The command reiterated its commitment to enhancing public safety and security across Anambra State.
