Nigeria Association of Women Journalist (NAWOJ), Zone C has paid school fees of thirty indigent female children in Anambra State.
The gesture was done through the pet project of the Vice -President of NAWOJ, Zone C, Comrade Stella Igboka’s ,”Girl-Child Scholarship Scheme”.
She said that the pupils were selected from Igwebueze Basic School, Ifite Awka and Awator Primary School, Nimo respectively.
Presenting the fees to the Manager of Igwebueze Basic School, Ifite Awka, Reverend Father Remigius Obasi and the Headmistress of Awator Primary School, Nimo Chinwe Okpatu, on Wednesday, respectively, Igboka said that the programme, which was part of the activities to mark the 2022 International Women’s Day, targeted one hundred indigent girls. She explained that the scholarship will help in taking the girls out of the street to place them in schools to enable them fulfill their aspirations in life.
She urged the National Assembly to revisit the rejected gender bills adding that women must be given full representation in the nation’s polity.
In their separate remarks, the Manager of Igwebueze Basic School, Reverend Father Remigius Obasi and the Headmistress of Awator Primary School, Nimo Chinwe Okpatu, thanked NAWOJ for its financial and moral support to the children. They said that women are very important in nation building.
Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, Chiemelie Ayiba and Chimkasi Ibekaku, thanked members of NAWOJ for their kind gesture and promised to take their studies seriously. They prayed God to bless NAWOJ.
The Vice President said she has plans to replicate the gesture in other states of the zone.
