In a strategic move to enhance public safety and restore normalcy, the Anambra State Joint Security Team on Monday, April 7, 2025, intensified security patrols across Nnewi and Ihiala, with a strong show of force aimed at dissuading criminal elements and encouraging economic activity.
The security operation, which included personnel from the Nigerian Police Force, Army (302 Artillery Regiment), Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the Anambra State Vigilante, was marked by a high-visibility convoy featuring armoured vehicles and tactical support units. The patrol was designed to reassure residents and business owners of their safety, particularly in areas previously impacted by threats of insecurity.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended residents of Awka and Onitsha for their courage and renewed commitment to economic activities, especially on Mondays, a day previously marred by low commercial turnout due to fear and tension in parts of the state.
CP Orutugu also praised various stakeholders, including commercial drivers and market leaders, for standing against any form of disruption and for supporting the state’s efforts to ensure peace and order.
“The resilience and cooperation of the people are commendable. Our joint efforts are gradually restoring confidence in the safety of public spaces and business environments, and this is vital for our economic revival,” the CP stated.
The police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reiterated the Joint Security Force’s dedication to maintaining law and order while working closely with communities to protect lives, property, and economic interests across Anambra State.
