ANAMBRA GUBER PRIMARIES: CP Orutugu Urges Officers To Remain Apolitical, Advises Candidates To Play By The Rules

As political party primaries commence in Anambra State ahead of the 2025 gubernatorial election, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has called on officers of the command to maintain professionalism, neutrality, and apolitical conduct in the discharge of their duties.

Speaking during a strategic meeting with senior officers of the command on Thursday, April 4, 2025, CP Orutugu emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order during the electioneering period. He noted that security personnel deployed for the primaries must ensure the process is peaceful, credible, and devoid of bias or intimidation.

“The Command has put strategic measures in place, including personnel deployment and stakeholder engagements, to prevent conflict and build public confidence in the electoral process,” the CP stated.

He further advised political candidates and their supporters to respect the rules of engagement and avoid actions that could threaten the peace and security of the state.

According to him, the command’s proactive approach includes security patrols, surveillance, traffic control, and collaborative operations with sister agencies to ensure a seamless and secure voting atmosphere.

The Commissioner urged members of the public to conduct themselves responsibly and cooperate with security agencies as they carry out their constitutional duties. He also encouraged citizens to report any security concerns or requests via the Command Control Room number at *07039194332* or reach the Police Public Relations Officer at *08039334002*.

Reiterating the command’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, CP Orutugu assured that all political actors, including their supporters, would be held accountable to ensure a fair and democratic process.

The statement was signed by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka.
