Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has been urged to mandate the repainting of buildings across the state, particularly in urban and semi-urban areas. This call was made by the Anambra Elders Forum (AEF) in a statement released to newsmen in Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra State.

According to the AEF, the repainting and rehabilitation of buildings will not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of urban centers but also contribute to the socio-economic development of the state. The statement, signed by Chief Uzoma Anunihu, Director of Information for AEF, proposed that the initiative should commence in August 2024 and conclude by December 2024, in time to give Anambra a refreshed look for the yuletide season.

The forum highlighted that similar policies have been successfully implemented in other states, positioning them as leaders in environmental cleanliness. Anunihu expressed confidence that adopting this program would place Anambra among the League of Environmentally Clean States.

In addition to beautifying the state, the initiative is expected to create job opportunities for local artisans, including painters and masons. The AEF noted that combining this program with the ongoing strategic road decongestion efforts would significantly enhance Anambra’s reputation as one of the most beautiful states in Nigeria.

“Governor Soludo has the opportunity to transform Anambra into a model of urban beauty and efficiency,” the statement read. “We believe this initiative, alongside current infrastructure improvements, will greatly benefit the state and its residents.”

The AEF’s call to action underscores the potential impact of coordinated urban renewal efforts on both the economy and the quality of life for the people of Anambra State.
