The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ramped up security advocacy efforts across the state to foster trust and confidence in law enforcement agencies among Ndi Anambra. During his visits on December 10, 2024, to Local Government Council Secretariats in Idemili South, Nnewi North and South, Orumba North and South, and Awka North, CP Itam emphasized the importance of collaboration between the police, other security agencies, and the public to ensure peace and safety.
The initiative, aimed at strengthening community engagement, seeks to encourage residents to take ownership of their security and report suspicious activities. CP Itam highlighted that the advocacy also focuses on preventing security breaches, educating communities on potential risks, and fostering a culture of security awareness and responsibility.
To institutionalize these efforts, the Commissioner announced the establishment of Community Policing Committees as outlined in the Police Act 2020. These committees will comprise key community leaders, including President Generals, Youth Leaders, Traditional Rulers, Market Leaders, members of the Christian Association, and the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG). Their mandate includes enhancing communication between the police and the community, improving police services, and maintaining partnerships that promote safety and security.
The CP noted that these committees would play a crucial role in preventing crimes, reducing economic losses, and promoting stability and peace, thereby contributing to sustainable development in Anambra State. He urged residents to collaborate with the police to create a safer environment for all.
CP Itam’s visits and advocacy efforts underline the Command’s commitment to fostering trust, protecting lives and property, and ensuring the well-being of Ndi Anambra.
