The new Anambra State Commandant for Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr Everestus Chimezie Obiyo JP has renewed the call for political actors in the state to shun inciting statements which can trigger violence ahead of Anambra Governorship Election. This was disclosed in a press statement by the Spokesperson of the command DSC Okadigbo Edwin.
Speaking today at the Command Headquarters in Awka when he received in audience members of Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) an independent, non profit organization, established for sustainable democracy and development in West Africa and an accredited observer in the November 6th Anambra State Gubernatorial election, he reassured the people of Anambra and residents alike that the command will not relent in arresting perpetrators of violence.
Obiyo used the medium to appreciate the CDD for always working on countering fake news in the electoral process, which according to him is a major security challenge in the electoral landscape.
He urged parents, guardians, and all peace loving stakeholders to continue to educate and sensitize the people on the need to shun violence before, during and after the election while urging them to participate peacefully in the electoral process.
Earlier in his remarks, the head of programme, Centre for Democracy and Development, Mr. Allison Timipere Felix informed the State Commandant of their mission to the Command which is to seek for security coverage as they educate politicians to engage in issue- based campaigns ahead of the election.
He solicited for Security protection of CDD observers already mobilized to monitor the election.
