The Nigeria Police Force has announced the assumption of duty by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Musa Yusuf Garba as the head of the Maritime Command at the Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos.
With over 30 years of distinguished service, AIG Garba brings extensive operational, investigative, and administrative expertise to the role. His career spans several strategic postings across Nigeria, reflecting his commitment to professionalism and national service.
Born on January 1, 1966, in Zamfara State, AIG Garba boasts an impressive academic profile, including a Master’s Degree in Criminology and Forensic Psychology from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto. His additional qualifications include a Diploma in Law from Kaduna Polytechnic, a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration, and advanced certifications in strategic security and private detective tradecraft.
Enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force in May 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, AIG Garba underwent rigorous training at the Police Academy Annex, Kaduna, and was commissioned in October 1993. He has since served in various capacities, including Divisional Traffic Officer in Plateau State, Divisional Crime Officer in Taraba State, and Commander of the Police Mobile Force in multiple regions. He also served as Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of Zamfara State and held leadership roles in Kaduna, Sokoto, Abuja, and Yobe State commands.
AIG Garba was previously the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State and Deputy Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his anti-corruption stance and dedication to due process.
His extensive professional training includes programs in community policing in the USA, strategic leadership, enterprise security risk management, and crisis management. These have equipped him with the skills to address complex security challenges.
AIG Garba has received numerous accolades, including fellowships from the International Institute of Professional Security and the Institute of Criminological Studies and Security Management of Nigeria.
As he takes charge of the Maritime Command, stakeholders, including Matthew Ibadin, CEO of Badinson Security Services, have expressed confidence in his ability to strengthen maritime security and enhance oversight of Nigeria’s waterways.
A family man and sports enthusiast, AIG Garba is expected to bring renewed energy and strategic vision to the Maritime Command, reinforcing the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s maritime assets.
