The newly established Africa Legends of Arts, Management, Politics, Science, Sports and Security (LAMPS) Awards is set to honor exceptional individuals and institutions across the African continent. Focused on integrity and transparency, the awards aim to recognize contributions in key areas such as science, politics, sports, technology, and more.
Spearheaded by Lenders Consult International, renowned for its credible and transparent award processes, the Africa LAMPS Awards promises to celebrate Africa’s brightest talents while upholding the highest standards of fairness and accountability. The initiative was launched by Shina Philips, President of the Africa LAMPS Awards, at a press conference held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.
Conceived in 2014, the Africa LAMPS Awards seek to recognize and honor outstanding individuals of African descent whose contributions to global civilization and development have often been underappreciated. The awards will cover critical sectors including science, politics, sports, security, management, entertainment, tourism, and technology.
“Africa is rich in natural resources, holding 30% of the world’s mineral reserves, 12% of its oil reserves, and about 8% of its natural gas. Additionally, Africa contains 60% of the world’s arable land. However, it is crucial to also project our rich human capital and the contributions of African professionals, scientists, managers, artists, and athletes to humanity,” Philips highlighted.
The Africa LAMPS Awards will celebrate Africa’s brightest stars across 14 categories, including nine individual awards, four institutional awards, and one award for a global leader whose foreign policy has significantly benefited the African continent. The aim is to inspire African leaders to prioritize innovation, knowledge sharing, and purposeful leadership while promoting core African values such as honesty, industry, ingenuity, enterprise, and integrity.
Philips emphasized the importance of transparency and integrity in the award process. “The integrity of any award platform hinges on clear criteria for voting and the credibility of the award process. Lenders Consult International brings over a decade of experience in organizing credible and transparent awards, as seen with the Nigeria Pitch Awards, Nigeria’s longest-running sports awards.”
Lenders Consult International’s previous successful events include the first NFF/FIFA Players Agents Workshop in 2011, the annual Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force since 2019, and the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations Ceremony held in April 2024.
For the Africa LAMPS Awards, nominees and winners will be chosen by a College of Voters composed of top editors and journalists from all 54 African countries. Voting will be conducted through a dedicated online portal managed by an experienced accounting and auditing firm, ensuring transparency and accuracy. Voters will nominate two candidates per category, with the main nominee receiving five points and the second nominee two points. The top three nominees in each category will be announced at a press conference, and the final winners will be revealed at the award ceremony.
Philips assured that Lenders Consult International will oversee the process without interference, maintaining the awards’ credibility and transparency. “This approach will ensure the Africa LAMPS Awards consistently promote African unity and values,” he said.
Recognizing the significant logistical and financial demands, Philips announced ongoing discussions with potential partners and sponsors who share the commitment to creating a prestigious and transparent African award.
Philips expressed confidence that the Africa LAMPS Awards will inspire winners to greater heights of professionalism and commitment, similar to the Nigeria Pitch Awards. “Africa needs an award platform that unites the continent and motivates leaders to invest in research and development, technology, agriculture, and the economy. In the next fifty years, Africa can become a leader in innovation and development. It is possible, achievable, and within our grasp,” he noted.
The Africa LAMPS Awards aim to be a significant global event, celebrating and promoting African excellence on an international stage.
