In a historic and memorable event, ACG Saidu Yusuf, the Zonal Coordinator in charge of Customs in Zone ‘A’, visited the Tin-Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. The visit was marked by the approval of commendation letters for 18 outstanding officers and the Command’s significant revenue contribution of N669 billion to the federation account.
The visit, aligned with the vision of CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR for constant engagement and consolidation, began with a warm reception by the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Dera Nnadi mni, and his officers at the parade ground. ACG Yusuf expressed great satisfaction with the Command’s achievements under Compt Nnadi’s leadership.
During his address, ACG Yusuf praised the Command for its exceptional revenue collection and significant seizures of arms, ammunition, hard drugs, and other unwholesome items, which have played a crucial role in safeguarding the nation’s economy and national security. He noted that the Command’s efforts have been instrumental in increasing revenue collection for the Federal Government.
Highlighting the hard work and dedication of the officers, ACG Yusuf announced the approval of commendation letters for 18 outstanding officers, including the Public Relations Officer of Tin-Can Command, Ngozi Okwara, and 17 others, who have shown exemplary commitment to their duties.
The ACG also commended the Command’s Time Release Study (TRS), aimed at facilitating seamless cargo clearance, and urged the officers to ensure thorough examination of cargoes and adherence to proper procedures. He emphasized the importance of vigilance in protecting the assets of the Service.
Comptroller Nnadi, in his response, expressed gratitude to ACG Yusuf and his team for the visit and applauded CGC Adeniyi for his transformational leadership. Nnadi highlighted the impressive revenue collection, noting that the N669 billion realized as of July 24, 2024, represents more than 93 percent of the total revenue generated by the Command in 2023, which was N716 billion. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to meeting its revenue target for the 2024 fiscal year and stressed the importance of the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR) in cargo clearance procedures and trade data management.
The visit by ACG Yusuf to Tin-Can Command has left lasting positive impressions and will be remembered fondly by the officers, marking a significant milestone in the Command’s history.
