Abducted NDLEA Anambra Director Regains Freedom, Police Launch Manhunt For Perpetrators

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the safe release of Mr. Daniel Onyishi, the State Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), who was abducted in the early hours of 12th June 2025 along Winner Road in Awka.

According to a statement issued on Saturday, 22nd June 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the NDLEA official is now in secure custody and is currently receiving medical attention.

The successful rescue followed intense joint efforts by the Police and sister security agencies. Notably, a high-powered team of covert operatives from the NDLEA, led by Zone 12 Commander, Mrs. Florence Ezeonye, played a pivotal role in facilitating Mr. Onyishi’s safe return.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, *CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD*, has briefed the Police High Command on the development and affirmed that the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to bring the culprits to justice has been activated.

Investigations are ongoing as security operatives continue efforts to track down those responsible for the abduction.
