The Ogun State Police Command, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni and the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, have received three major awards at the Golden Jubilee Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council.
The honours, presented during the week-long celebration marking 50 years of the NUJ in Ogun State, recognised the Command’s contributions to public safety, CP Ojajuni’s leadership and DSP Babaseyi’s role in strategic police-public communication.
The Command received the Shield of Public Safety Award, CP Ojajuni was named a Golden Jubilee Ambassador, while DSP Babaseyi received the Vanguard of Public Safety Award.
The celebration, held from October 26 to November 1, 2026, coincided with the 50th anniversary of Ogun State and was themed, “Truth, Trust and the Press: Protecting Democratic Choice and Rebuilding Public Confidence in Journalism.”
A major highlight of the event was a panel discussion featuring CP Ojajuni, who urged journalists to uphold truth, professional ethics and patriotism in the discharge of their responsibilities.
He emphasised that responsible journalism remained essential to national development, public enlightenment and building confidence in public institutions.
Receiving the Shield of Public Safety Award on behalf of the Command, Ojajuni attributed its operational achievements, particularly the impact of Operation KOSAYE, to the strategic direction of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, under the Handshake Patrol initiative.
He explained that Operation KOSAYE was implemented following the IGP’s directive through collaboration between the Ogun and Lagos State Police Commands, with the support of the governors of both states.
According to him, the initiative has strengthened inter-state security cooperation and improved coordinated efforts to prevent and combat criminal activities across the two states.
The Commissioner of Police was also recognised as a Golden Jubilee Ambassador alongside 49 other distinguished personalities for his contributions to policing and public service.
Before his appointment as Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ojajuni served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department and Squadron Commander of the 16 Police Mobile Force, Abeokuta.
Similarly, DSP Babaseyi received the Vanguard of Public Safety Award in recognition of his contributions to police-public communication, media engagement and public safety advocacy.
The Commissioner dedicated the awards to the Inspector-General of Police and officers of the Nigeria Police Force, acknowledging their commitment and sacrifices in protecting lives and property.
He also appreciated the NUJ Ogun State Council, led by its Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, for the recognition and its sustained efforts towards strengthening relations between the media and security institutions.
The Command reiterated that effective policing extends beyond operational deployments, stressing that public trust, timely information and constructive engagement with stakeholders remain essential to sustainable security.
It reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a professional partnership with the NUJ and the wider media community to promote public enlightenment, crime prevention and community safety.
The Command assured residents of its continued commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing and the protection of lives and property across Ogun State.
