Operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 36 year old man, Shobande Taofeek, over alleged vandalism and theft of railway infrastructure in the Arigbajo area of the state.
The arrest followed intelligence reports about the theft of railway materials. Police operatives intensified surveillance and patrols in the area on October 23, 2026, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
The police said the suspect subsequently led operatives to an uncompleted building where they recovered 16 railway iron rods and two gas cylinders believed to be connected to the alleged crime.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly admitted involvement in similar offences on three previous occasions. The command said efforts were ongoing to arrest other suspects linked to the incident and recover additional stolen property.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting public assets and critical infrastructure. He urged residents to provide credible information to the police to support crime prevention and the prosecution of offenders.
