Fashion designer Prudent Gabriel has opened up about a touching conversation she had with her elder sister before her marriage to gospel singer Peterson Okopi.
Prudent Gabriel has shared the emotional thought process behind her decision to marry before her elder sister, revealing that she was actually prepared to postpone her wedding if her sister was uncomfortable with it.
The fashion designer made the revelation while speaking at the Next Level Prayers (NLP) Singles Connect and Prayer Conference hosted by Pastor Bolaji Idowu in Lagos.
Prudent was concerned about marrying before her sister
According to Prudent, the fact that she was about to get married while her elder sister was still single did not sit completely well with her.
Rather than ignore the situation, she decided to have an honest conversation with her sister.
Prudent recalled asking her directly if she was genuinely comfortable with her younger sister getting married before her.
Her sister reportedly reassured her and encouraged her to go ahead with the marriage.
However, Prudent said she was still willing to put her own plans on hold.
“We can wait till next year”
The designer explained that she told her sister she and her fiancé were not under any pressure to get married immediately.
She said she was even willing to move the wedding to the following year if that would make her sister more comfortable.
Prudent also wanted to understand where her sister stood in her own relationship and whether her partner was ready to take the step toward marriage.
For her, it was important that her sister did not feel as though she was being left behind.
Emotional moment on her wedding day
Despite her sister giving her the go-ahead, Prudent admitted that she still felt emotional about the situation.
She recalled hugging her sister on her wedding day and reassuring her that her own time would come.
The moment, she explained, was a reminder that marriage should not become a source of unnecessary pressure between siblings.
Prudent eventually tied the knot with Peterson Okopi, but her story has continued to resonate with many Nigerians who are familiar with the pressure surrounding marriage, particularly for older siblings.
Fans react to Prudent’s revelation
Prudent’s revelation has also sparked conversations about whether younger siblings should delay marriage simply because their older siblings are yet to settle down.
While traditional expectations sometimes suggest that the first child or older sibling should marry first, Prudent’s experience shows that open communication and genuine consideration can help families navigate such situations.
For Prudent, getting married before her elder sister was not something she wanted to do at the expense of her sister’s happiness.
And perhaps that is what makes her story particularly touching: she was ready to wait, but her sister chose to let her go ahead.
