The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Western Marine Command, has confirmed a fire incident at its premises in Apapa, Lagos, assuring stakeholders that no life was lost and the command’s core operations remain unaffected.
The incident occurred at about 10:35 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, when a fire outbreak was detected within some offices of the command.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Acting Customs Public Relations Officer of the Western Marine Command, Deputy Superintendent of Customs Nwosu Clarine Chibunna, said officers on duty immediately activated the command’s emergency response protocols.
According to the statement, personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the premises at about 11:25 a.m. and successfully brought the fire under control.
The command said a preliminary assessment showed that some property and office equipment were affected by the incident. Thick smoke was initially observed coming from the newly constructed conference hall.
The NCS, however, confirmed that no death or injury was recorded in the incident, while commending officers and firefighters for their prompt response.
The command also assured stakeholders and members of the public that the fire did not disrupt its core operations, which have continued normally.
To establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, the command has constituted a committee to investigate both the immediate and remote causes of the fire.
The committee is expected to make appropriate recommendations, while the command said it would strengthen measures aimed at protecting personnel, infrastructure and other assets against future incidents.
The Western Marine Command further appreciated the cooperation of relevant stakeholders and reaffirmed its commitment to safety, security and operational efficiency across its formations.
