The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command (WNC), Rear Admiral Abdullahi Abubakar Mustapha, has intensified efforts to strengthen maritime security collaboration with key industry stakeholders, paying a strategic courtesy visit to the leadership of SIFAX Group in Apapa, Lagos.
The high-level engagement, held on March 3, 2026, formed part of broader initiatives aimed at reinforcing civil–military cooperation and enhancing synergy within Nigeria’s maritime domain, particularly across the Command’s Area of Responsibility.
During discussions with the Chairman of SIFAX Group, Taiwo Afolabi, the FOC underscored the pivotal role of public-private partnerships in sustaining maritime stability and securing critical economic assets along the nation’s coastline.
Rear Admiral Mustapha reaffirmed the resolve of the Nigerian Navy to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial waters, ensure safe navigation, and protect strategic infrastructure that underpins trade, port operations, and offshore investments.
He stressed that emerging threats within the maritime space demand closer coordination between security agencies and corporate operators, particularly in safeguarding shipping lanes, port facilities, and offshore installations vital to national revenue generation.
According to him, sustained collaboration with industry leaders would not only strengthen operational intelligence sharing but also bolster rapid response capabilities in addressing evolving security concerns across maritime trade corridors.
Responding on behalf of the Chairman, the Group Coordinating Director of SIFAX Group, Mrs. Wummi Eniola Jegede, expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the Western Naval Command for its steadfast commitment to maritime security.
She reaffirmed the organisation’s readiness to deepen cooperation with naval authorities in areas of shared interest, especially initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, safety standards, and long-term national development.
The visit concluded with the exchange of souvenirs and a symbolic reaffirmation of partnership, as both institutions signalled their determination to maintain a united front in protecting Nigeria’s maritime ecosystem and sustaining economic growth.
