The Network of Nigerian Maritime Journalists (NNMJ), the umbrella body of maritime reporters in the country, has congratulated the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on the occasion of his birthday, describing his leadership as transformational and reform-driven.
In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Elder Dele Aderibigbe, and Secretary, Moses Ebosele, the association said Adeniyi’s tenure has brought renewed direction and global recognition to the Nigeria Customs Service at a critical period in its history.
According to Aderibigbe, the Customs helmsman “stood up to be counted when the Service needed clear direction,” noting that his leadership has repositioned the NCS from a period of turbulence to an enviable standing within the global customs community, culminating in his emergence as Chairman of the World Customs Organisation (WCO), a development that has significantly boosted Nigeria’s international image.
The NNMJ chairman further described Adeniyi as a work-focused and reform-oriented administrator who has implemented far-reaching initiatives that are yielding tangible results. Chief among these reforms, he said, is B’Odogwu, an indigenous operational framework credited with improving efficiency and driving increased revenue inflows to the Federal Government.
Aderibigbe recalled President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent commendation of the Comptroller-General, in which the President noted that Adeniyi’s leadership has translated into improved community relations, consistent surpassing of revenue targets, stronger trade partnerships with countries and multilateral institutions, as well as enhanced security across Nigeria’s borders. According to the President, these outcomes underscore the importance of reform-oriented leadership in strengthening national economic resilience and safeguarding the country’s frontiers.
The maritime journalists’ body prayed that God grants the Comptroller-General continued strength, wisdom and good health to sustain the ongoing reforms and effectively pilot the affairs of the Nigeria Customs Service in the national interest.
