The 2025 edition of GTCO Fashion Weekend burst onto the Lagos scene today, transforming Victoria Island into a vibrant hub of style, innovation, and African creativity.

Now in its 8th year, the annual fashion showcase returned to Plot 1, Water Corporation Drive, Oniru, drawing designers, entrepreneurs, and fashion enthusiasts from across Africa and beyond for two days of runway brilliance, inspiring masterclasses, and cultural exchange.

This year’s theme, “Fashion Is Freedom,” celebrates style as a form of self-expression, cultural storytelling, and economic empowerment reaffirming Africa’s place in the global fashion narrative.

Day One opened with a series of high-impact masterclasses led by global fashion leaders.
Bianca Saunders, the award-winning British menswear designer, set the tone with a powerful session on authenticity and staying true to one’s creative roots in a rapidly globalizing industry.

Jade Oyateru, Co-founder and COO of Uncover, explored the intersection of innovation, purpose, and representation in African fashion retail. Drawing from her experience leading one of the continent’s fastest-growing beauty brands, she emphasized sustainability and inclusivity as key drivers of growth.

Closing the sessions, Melissa Butler, Founder and CEO of The Lip Bar, delivered an electrifying talk on building a multi-million-dollar beauty empire from scratch. Her story of resilience and purpose-driven entrepreneurship deeply resonated with attendees, inspiring creatives to believe that “everyone is enough.”

The runway came alive with a kaleidoscope of color and craftsmanship from leading and emerging designers including Ituen Basi, The Bam Collective, Sevon Dejana, Mmuso Maxwell, Mowalola, and Priya Ahluwalia.

Each collection fused tradition with innovation from reimagined African silhouettes to futuristic tailoring and sustainable fabrics embodying the event’s theme of freedom and fearless creativity.

Off the runway, the GTCO Fashion Weekend Marketplace pulsed with energy as guests explored curated collections from African designers and entrepreneurs. The open market, a signature of the event, underscores GTCO’s commitment to supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and growing Nigeria’s creative economy.

Day Two promises more runway excitement, insightful masterclasses, and retail experiences. Attendance is free, with registration and the full event schedule available at fashionweekend.gtcoplc.com.
