The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant achievements in the fight against crime and insecurity across the state, resulting in multiple arrests, the recovery of firearms, rescue of kidnap victims, and the dismantling of notorious criminal networks.
Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, psc, disclosed this during a press briefing held at the Command Headquarters in Asaba, where he presented the Command’s operational scorecard for October 2025 to date.
According to the Commissioner, the Command’s proactive policing strategies, intelligence-led operations, and collaboration with local vigilante groups have continued to yield positive results across the state.
On November 1, 2025, armed men abducted a woman in Obinomba community. Acting swiftly on the distress call, operatives from Obiaruku Division, supported by local vigilantes, trailed the suspects into the forest. The kidnappers engaged the police in a gun battle, during which one suspect was fatally injured. The victim was rescued unhurt, while an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 12 rounds of live ammunition were recovered.
Following intelligence from the Force Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), Abuja, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) arrested one Jamila Abubakar at a filling station in Effurun with ₦550,000 suspected to be proceeds of illicit arms trade.
Subsequent operations led to the arrest of Ahmed Ibrahim (31), a notorious arms supplier in Warri. Recovered items include 115 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 220 rounds of SMG ammunition, and 32 live cartridges.
Ibrahim was found to be a major supplier of weapons to bandits in the North and had been on the Command’s watchlist for his involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery. Further searches led to the recovery of another AK-47 rifle and 18 rounds of ammunition buried near Beta Glass Company, Warri.
Acting on a tip-off, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad (SAKCCS) arrested three suspects linked to the kidnapping of two victims in Asaba. The suspects, Ndianefo Cypre (60), Onwe Sunday (49), and Uzoma Ifeanyi Chukwu were apprehended in Ihiala and Nnewi, Anambra State.
A total ransom sum of ₦4.1 million was recovered from the suspects, and investigations are ongoing.
On October 31, 2025, operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad intercepted a commercial bus along the Ughelli–Warri Road and arrested Ovioma Andrew (38). A locally made single-barrel gun and a walkie-talkie were found hidden in his luggage. The suspect remains in custody.
Police operatives from Bomadi Division, during a joint operation with local vigilantes, intercepted a motorcycle conveying a 62-year-old woman, Charter Timide, with a concealed sack containing 178 live cartridges. The suspect was arrested and investigations are ongoing.
Responding to a distress call from Ubeji Community, operatives of Ekpan Division arrested seven suspects, all from the Omone family and rescued three kidnap victims alive. The victims have since been reunited with their families.
Following a viral WhatsApp video depicting suspected Eiye cult activities in Aviara Community, police operatives arrested Donatus Odovo (29) and Zachariah Okeh (36). A search of Okeh’s residence led to the recovery of two locally made guns and six live cartridges.
On October 27, 2025, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) intercepted a Toyota RAV4 along the Asaba–Benin Expressway. The driver, Mordi Emmanuel (45), was arrested after a fabricated Beretta pistol, a pump-action shotgun, and ammunition were recovered from his vehicle and residence.
During intensified night patrols in Ubeji Community, police operatives intercepted a Lexus SUV and recovered a locally made cut-to-size double-barrel gun, a battle axe, and cartridges. Suspects are in custody.
Police from the Ovian Aladja Division rescued a kidnapped woman after armed men invaded her home. Persistent pursuit forced the kidnappers to abandon their victim, who was safely reunited with her family.
Acting on intelligence, the Crack Squad arrested Igwe Samson (33) and Abalum Sunday (39) in Effurun. A search of their vehicle yielded a large haul of narcotics, including 450 bottles of codeine, 188 bottles of bargadine, 208 sachets of Tramadol (100mg), and other illicit substances.
On October 6, 2025, CP-SAT operatives arrested Okechukwu Okwudili Nwanolue (45) in Ibusa. Recovered from the scene were one pump-action gun, three live cartridges, two laptops suspected to be tools for internet fraud, and fetish items concealed in a shrine.
Two suspects, Lucky Tenaera (24) and Prince Emma Esemedafe (38) were arrested at Adheje Community. A locally made long gun and 11 ATM cards were recovered during the operation.

CP Abaniwonda commended officers of the Command for their professionalism and dedication, assuring residents of Delta State that the Police remain resolute in maintaining law and order.
