ANAMBRA ELECTION: Police Deploy Tactical Teams, Helicopters, And Drones To Boost Security

In a decisive move to ensure peace and safety ahead of the forthcoming Governorship Election in Anambra State, the Anambra State Police Command has received the Force Headquarters Advance Tactical Teams deployed to fortify security across the state.

The deployment, approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, aligns with the Force’s strategic operational plan to enhance local police formations with additional manpower and advanced technology, including helicopters and surveillance drones for comprehensive aerial monitoring.

Speaking in Awka while receiving the teams, Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, expressed deep appreciation to the IGP for his continued support and commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Anambra State.

According to the CP, the newly deployed aerial assets will complement ongoing ground patrols and intelligence-led operations conducted by tactical units, special squads, and intelligence officers already positioned across all 21 Local Government Areas.

“The combined efforts of our tactical teams and the advanced surveillance equipment will strengthen visibility policing, rapid response capability, and intelligence-driven security operations,” CP Orutugu stated.

He explained that the use of helicopters and drones will allow real-time monitoring of key locations, border communities, and flashpoints, while ground units maintain sustained patrols, checkpoints, and stop-and-search operations.

Reaffirming the Command’s readiness for inter-agency collaboration, CP Orutugu emphasized the importance of cooperation among all security stakeholders in maintaining peace and public confidence before, during, and after the election.

He urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant, while promptly reporting suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency hotlines — 07039194332 or 08039334002.

The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its unwavering commitment to creating a safe and secure environment where citizens can carry out their lawful duties without fear, intimidation, or disruption.
