It was a moment filled with joy, unity, and deep appreciation as the Nteje Development Union (NDU), Lagos Branch, held its 2025 General Meeting on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at NDU Hall, Road 404, NASCO Estate, Satellite Town, Lagos.
The meeting, which attracted a large turnout of members, elders, and guests, was marked by a special recognition ceremony honouring the past leaders of the Union who have contributed immensely to its growth and stability over the years.
In his opening address, the sitting President, Chief Engr. Chinedu Orakwue (Oputa Obie Na Aborgu), described the event as a celebration of legacy, service, and brotherhood. He commended the past presidents for laying a solid foundation that has continued to strengthen the unity and progress of Nteje indigenes in Lagos.
“Today, we are not just gathering as members of NDU; we are celebrating men who have shown integrity, leadership, and commitment to the ideals of community development. Their selfless service continues to inspire us to do more for our people and for the future of Nteje,” Chief Orakwue said.
The Union honoured the following distinguished past leaders for their remarkable service and leadership: Chief Felix Okoye, Chief Emmanuel Umebe (Nnanyelugo 1 na Aborgu), Chief Gabriel Okafor, Chief Dr. Jerry Nwakonobi (Orimili Atata 1 na Aborgu, and Chief Sir. Mike Nwakalor (Wowo Nteje; Omeluora Oyi na Omabala)
Each of the honourees received a Certificate of Recognition and Award of Excellence presented by the Union’s executive council, amid cheers and applause from members.
Speaking on behalf of the award recipients, Chief Emmanuel Umebe (Nnanyelugo 1 na Aborgu) expressed heartfelt gratitude to the current leadership for the honour, noting that appreciation while alive is one of the greatest gifts a person can receive.
“It is a great joy for one to be recognized and celebrated while still alive. I sincerely thank the President, the executive members, and the entire NDU family for remembering the efforts we made during our time. This honour will encourage us to continue supporting the Union in every possible way,” Chief Umebe remarked.
The event also featured discussions on community welfare, youth empowerment, and ongoing developmental projects in Nteje, as well as initiatives to strengthen unity among members residing in Lagos and beyond.
The meeting concluded with prayers for continued peace and progress in Nteje town and for the well-being of all members of the NDU family.
