As part of his administration’s ongoing push to revive the tourism sector in Plateau State, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, conducted an inspection tour of remodeling works at the iconic Plateau Hotel and Hill Station Hotel in Jos, the state capital.
Describing the two hospitality landmarks as critical to Plateau State’s cultural and economic identity, Governor Mutfwang expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work being done at both locations. He noted that the hotels, once symbols of tourism excellence in Nigeria, had suffered long periods of neglect but are now being restored to reclaim their historic value.
“A lot of the history of Plateau State is tied to assets like this,” the Governor said, emphasizing the importance of reviving legacy institutions to boost local investment and leisure tourism. He added that a portion of the Plateau Hotel is expected to be completed and open to the public by December 1, 2025.
Governor Mutfwang revealed that the state government is leveraging private sector partnerships to reduce the financial burden on public resources while ensuring long-term sustainability of tourism infrastructure.
At the Plateau Hotel site, the project is being executed by Aviare Global Concept Ltd., led by Chairman and CEO, Mr. Kudla Satumari. The scope of work includes a dual carriage access road, enhanced landscaping with palm trees, a modern security control center equipped with CCTV, and a redesigned perimeter fence to improve both aesthetics and security.
Meanwhile, renovation work at Hill Station Hotel is being handled by Hillside Hospitality Ltd. According to project reports, Phase One is 45 percent complete, with visible progress on key components such as the new fence and gatehouses, twin swimming pools, a modern gym, poolside bar, laundry café, and other auxiliary facilities. Ongoing work also includes the main building annex, conference halls, and comprehensive mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations. The overall project is estimated to be around 50 percent complete.
The Hill Station Hotel project is being overseen by Project Manager Arc. Okechukwu Izeogu, Lead Supervisor Arch. Racheal Dawurung, and Project Director Oluwadamilola Awoyomi.
Governor Mutfwang commended the teams on both sites for their professionalism and reiterated his administration’s dedication to repositioning Plateau State as Nigeria’s premier tourism destination. He said the hospitality revitalization efforts are part of a broader strategy to rebrand Plateau as the “Home of Peace and Tourism.”
