As preparations intensify ahead of the November 8, 2025, Anambra State gubernatorial election, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) to enhance election security, pre-election intelligence, and violence prevention across the state.
The collaboration was formalized on Tuesday during an advocacy visit by a delegation from KDI to the NSCDC State Command Headquarters in Awka. The team, led by Oluwafemi John Adebanjo, KDI’s Head of Research and Strategy, was received by the Anambra State Commandant, Commandant Maku Olatunde, represented by Deputy Commandant Akaachia Godwin, Head of Administration.
Commandant Maku commended the initiative, emphasizing the critical role of credible, data-driven monitoring in reducing electoral violence. He expressed confidence that feedback from KDI’s election security assessments would strengthen the NSCDC’s strategies in safeguarding the electoral process.
“The NSCDC recognizes the value of partnering with organizations like KDI, which play a pivotal role in developing early warning systems and supplying intelligence that helps prevent election-related violence,” Maku noted. “Their contributions to supporting electoral stakeholders make this collaboration essential, particularly as we approach the Anambra State governorship election.”
On his part, Oluwafemi John reiterated KDI’s commitment to credible elections and accountability in Nigeria’s democratic process. He highlighted the organization’s Election Security Risk Assessment (ESRA) methodology and Early Warning System, both of which aim to provide timely analysis and risk mitigation ahead of polls.
He called for sustained collaboration with the NSCDC to achieve shared goals of peace and security before, during, and after the election.
A key moment of the visit was the presentation of a detailed report by KDI, outlining key findings and lessons from its monitoring of the 2024 Edo and Ondo governorship elections, further emphasizing the value of evidence-based planning and cooperation.
The visit underscores a growing consensus among electoral stakeholders that cross-sector collaboration remains vital for credible and violence-free elections in Nigeria.
