In a bid to ensure peace and security in South East Nigeria, the Nigerian Army’s 302 Regiment, operating under the 82 Division, joined forces with the Anambra Vigilante Group to dismantle camps belonging to fighters associated with the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Oroma and Umuewelum Anam, located in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The operation, which took place on July 23, 2023, aimed to curb the illicit activities of these groups within the communities.

During the well-executed raid, the joint forces managed to seize significant weaponry and assets from the fighters.

The recovered items included one AK-47 Rifle, one AKMS Rifle, three Lexus SUVs, and two Motorcycles.

Furthermore, eight brigands were apprehended by the troops during this operation.

In a separate operation, the troops also conducted a raid on an IPOB camp at Mmiata Anam in Anambra South.

During the encounter, the gallant troops engaged with the irredentist group, resulting in the neutralization of one IPOB fighter, while another was captured alive.

In the same vein, the troops successfully recovered one AK-47 Rifle, one dane gun, and police uniforms from the scene.

The Nigerian Army urges all law-abiding citizens, especially the good and enterprising people of the South East, to continue supporting and cooperating with the troops and other security agencies in their tireless efforts to put an end to the threats and challenges faced by the region. Together, with the community’s help, lasting peace and stability can be achieved.
