54TH NATIONAL CONVENTION: NNPP Ratifies Automatic Tickets For Elected Members As Major Emerges National Chairman

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has ratified automatic tickets for all its elected members ahead of the next general election, ensuring they will run unopposed. The decision was finalized at the party’s 54th National Convention held at Rockview Hotel, Lagos, on February 4, 2025.

The motion was moved by Hon. Musa Yankaba, Secretary of NNPP Kano State, and seconded by Hon. Chief Ojoegu Ifeanyi Stephen, State Chairman of NNPP Ebonyi State. The party’s leadership stated that the move was a recognition of the members’ commitment and service.

In his welcome address, Alhaji Mohammed Abdullahi Babayo, Secretary of the NNPP Board of Trustees, urged party members to remain dedicated to ensuring good governance. “The task ahead is enormous, but with unity, hard work, and a clear vision, we will continue to strengthen the NNPP and position it as the true vehicle for change in Nigeria,” he said.

Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, Founder and Chairman of the NNPP Board of Trustees, expressed confidence that the convention had resolved internal conflicts within the party. He reaffirmed his commitment to the party’s future while stepping back from active leadership. “The newly elected members of the National Working Committee (NWC) will now take charge of the party’s leadership, while I assume the role of an elder,” he stated.

Aniebonam also addressed past disputes with Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a key figure in the party, saying he had forgiven him despite past conflicts and called for prayers for Kwankwaso.

The convention also saw the election of Dr. Agbo Gilbert Major as the new National Chairman of the party. Comrade Oginni S. Olaposi was elected as the National Secretary, among other key positions in the National Working Committee. The newly elected officials took their oath of office, which was administered by the party’s legal adviser.

With the new leadership in place, party members and stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the NNPP’s influence in Nigeria’s political landscape. The convention ended with a call for unity, grassroots mobilization, and internal democracy within the party.
