The stage is set for the highly anticipated +234Art Fair, as over 200 artists prepare to showcase their talents at the expansive Ecobank Pan African Centre (EPAC) venue. Scheduled to kick off on Friday, March 22nd, the 10-day exhibition promises to attract top government officials, policymakers, diplomats, and art enthusiasts from around the world.

Curated by Soto Gallery in collaboration with Ecobank and Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), the +234Art Fair aims to bolster the creative sector by providing a platform for emerging artists to gain recognition and economic empowerment through art sales both locally and internationally.

Tola Akerele, the founder of Soto Gallery, described the fair’s title, ‘+234Art,’ as a fusion of Nigeria’s dialing code with the concept of art, symbolizing a comprehensive exploration of regional art’s current state and its interaction with the broader art community across Africa and beyond.

Akerele explained, “‘A New Heritage,’ the theme of +234Art Fair, aims to bridge Nigeria’s artistic past with its present, instilling a sense of pride and purpose among emerging artists. The event prompts critical questions about Nigerian artistic identity and heritage, paving the way for future contributions to the nation’s artistic legacy.”

Bolaji Lawal, Managing Director and Regional Executive of Ecobank Nigeria, assured attendees that the fair would be an enriching experience for both artists and art enthusiasts. He emphasized its role as a focal point for art lovers, providing emerging artists with opportunities to showcase their works on both local and global stages.

Samaila Zubairu, President & CEO of Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), encouraged the public to participate in the fair, citing its numerous benefits. He highlighted the collaboration’s aim to promote African art and artists worldwide, fostering growth and recognition for the continent’s creative industry.

Key attractions of the fair include a diverse range of art pieces, an art-centric bookstore, immersive children’s activities, a VIP lounge, culinary delights, and engaging masterclasses and workshops.

The +234Art Fair promises to be a celebration of Nigerian creativity, heritage, and the burgeoning talent within the country’s artistic community.
