23 Suspects Paraded For Various Crimes By Zone 2 Command

The Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force, led by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Olatoye A. Durosinmi, BSc, LLB, BL, LLM, has made significant strides in combating crime within its jurisdiction. Today, AIG Durosinmi presented 23 suspects—21 males and 2 females—charged with offenses including criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, armed robbery, breaking and stealing, and the adulteration of pharmaceutical drugs. A wide array of exhibits was also recovered from the suspects.

On June 1, 2024, operatives of the Zonal Dragon Squad apprehended Samson Sesan, an ex-convict and the alleged kingpin of a robbery gang responsible for multiple incidents in Abeokuta. A search of Sesan’s residence yielded a locally made double-barrel pistol, a single-barrel pistol, and ten live cartridges. Subsequent interrogations led to the arrest of additional suspects and the recovery of more incriminating items.

A kidnapping case was reported by Jona Jumai, whose sister, Ruth Livinus, a domestic worker in Ajah, Lagos, was allegedly abducted. The kidnappers demanded a N5 million ransom. However, investigations by the Zonal Anti-Piracy Unit, led by SP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi, revealed that the supposed victim, Livinus, along with her boyfriend Isaac Gabriel and cousin Jeremiah Boniface, had staged the kidnapping to extort money from her employer and family.

Dennis Ebeze, a former chef, was accused of stealing jewelry and valuables worth over N40 million from Dr. Ademola Oyewusi in August 2023. Ebeze was tracked and arrested in Makurdi, Benue State. He admitted to selling the stolen items for N7.4 million before fleeing to Cross River State.

A petition from Walter Anyaoha, Managing Director of Wihyaland Pharmaceutical Limited, reported the disappearance of trainee Chisom Ndukwu along with four cartons of JVI drugs valued at N9.6 million. Ndukwu was later arrested alongside his accomplice, Mark Chukwuemeka Ambush, who was involved in producing adulterated cough syrups. A search of their premises uncovered bags containing packs with inscriptions of DSP codeine cough syrups, and empty bottles and covers. The suspects confessed to the crime and implicated another accomplice, Kosi, who is currently at large.

Among the recovered items were:
– Two locally made pistols
– Ten rounds of live cartridges
– Several unregistered and registered vehicles
– Stolen food items (rice and gari)
– Various tools and weapons, including cutlasses, iron bars, and hammers
– Bags containing adulterated pharmaceutical products

SP Umma T. Ayuba, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that investigations are ongoing and efforts are being intensified to apprehend any remaining suspects. Updates will be provided to the public as the investigations progress, and the suspects will be prosecuted accordingly.

This significant breakthrough in crime-fighting underscores the Zone 2 Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of the community.
