The Nigerian military has rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, following weeks in captivity after her abduction by armed bandits.
The rescue was achieved during a sustained military operation conducted under Operation FASAN YAMMA, security authorities disclosed on Monday.
The operation involved troops of the Nigerian Army working in close coordination with the Nigerian Air Force, whose aerial support played a critical role in the mission.
Military sources said the breakthrough followed weeks of intensive search efforts and sustained pressure on criminal elements operating within the affected area.
According to the authorities, troops established contact with the bandits during a clearance operation around Tunga Village.
The security forces reportedly advanced on the criminals, forcing them to abandon their position as military pressure intensified.
During the encounter, the abductors allegedly shot Mrs. Abubakar before fleeing the area to avoid capture by the advancing troops.
The soldiers immediately secured the location and evacuated the victim from the scene.
She was subsequently transported to a military medical facility for urgent treatment and specialised care.
Military authorities confirmed that Mrs. Abubakar is responding positively to treatment and remains under close medical supervision.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria assured that every necessary medical and welfare support is being provided to her and members of her family.
The rescue has been described as a major success in the ongoing campaign against banditry and other violent criminal activities across the country.
Security officials noted that the operation reflects the military’s commitment to protecting citizens and securing the release of kidnapping victims.
They further stated that intelligence-driven operations are continuing across Katsina State and other troubled areas to dismantle criminal networks.
The Armed Forces reaffirmed that troops will sustain aggressive operations to track, apprehend and neutralise those behind the abduction while intensifying efforts to restore peace and security in affected communities nationwide.
