The Nigeria Silent Heroes Awards Initiative has commended the Chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB), Air Vice Marshal Mikail Abdulraheem, for what it described as his transformative leadership and commitment to improving the welfare of retired military personnel.

The commendation came during a courtesy visit by the Convener and Founder of the Nigeria Silent Heroes Awards, Mr. Odita Sunday, and his team to formally invite the MPB chairman to the 8th edition of the awards scheduled for June 27 in Abuja.

Speaking during the visit, Odita praised Abdulraheem’s leadership of the Military Pensions Board, noting that his efforts have positively impacted the lives of military retirees and contributed to reforms within the pensions system.

He described the chairman’s service as worthy of recognition, adding that the award initiative seeks to celebrate individuals whose contributions to society often go unnoticed despite their far-reaching impact.

Responding, Abdulraheem expressed appreciation for the recognition and reiterated that leadership should be measured by the positive impact it has on people’s lives rather than personal gains.

He urged leaders to focus on building institutions, creating opportunities and delivering services that benefit society, stressing that recognition of selfless service encourages integrity, accountability and national development.

The MPB chairman also highlighted the importance of projecting exemplary leaders and mentors to inspire younger generations and strengthen the culture of service in the country.

The award ceremony, themed “Invisible Lights, Illuminating Lives,” is expected to honour individuals who have made significant contributions to national development and community service through dedicated and often unheralded efforts.

Present at the meeting were the Director, Air Force Pensions, the Director of Finance and Accounts; the Acting Deputy Director, Army Pension Scheme; the Assistant Director, Computer Department; and other senior officers of the Board.
